Description

The Research Bioinformatics team conducts statistical analyses of large datasets to support pre-clinical and discovery research projects in Biology. The intern will provide statistical support for non-clinical research and development programs across multiple therapeutic areas (i.e. oncology, virology, liver disease, inflammatory diseases) including drug discovery, pre-clinical studies, assay and process development and quality control. The intern will be engaged in the analysis, interpretation and reporting of in vivo and in vitro data from laboratory models by applying statistical principles and techniques to provide solutions to a wide range of problems in the drug research and development environment. Essential Functions: • Conduct statistical analyses • Perform sample size and power calculations • Apply statistical theory and analysis methods to data to ensure a solid statistical base for data interpretation • Develop and implement statistical learning models • Prepare oral presentations and written reports and communicate results to project teams • Discuss findings through PowerPoint and poster presentations Knowledge, Experience & Skills: • Undergraduate students in their 3rd or 4th year from a research university/college or institute • Graduate student enrolled in master or PhD program from a research university/college or institute; including enrollment in Fall Semester after internship • Major in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science or related field • Good knowledge of experimental study designs, common analysis methods, descriptive and inferential statistics, summarization of data and presentation practices • Good knowledge of statistical principles and methodologies commonly used in pre- clinical studies, such as mixed effects model, nonparametric methods, survival analysis, generalized linear regression, statistical learning models. etc. • Good knowledge of statistical programming languages (including SAS and R Studio) and experience with other study design and analysis software • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong work ethic are essential • Good collaborative skills and ability to work within cross-functional teams • Biology or bioinformatics background is a plus • Ability to complete 10-12 consecutive weeks between May and September *Please note, relocation is not available for this position* Gilead Sciences please connect with us via our talent community: https://gilead.avature.net/Gilead About Gilead: Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercialises innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need.
