Job Title: Intern, Drug Metabolism
Responsibilities:
A summer research internship is available in the Drug Metabolism Department of Gilead Sciences, Foster City. The internship project will focus on the development of microvolume volume bioanalysis. The candidate will primarily utilize liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry based methods. The candidate will be responsible for optimizing the sample preparation conditions and developing the analytical method (LC and MS conditions), and then quantifying the compounds in blood and plasma.
Working with supervision, the candidate will execute assigned experiments that support research activities and project goals. With guidance and direction they will be involved in development of new assays, planning experiments, and selecting appropriate reagents and controls. The candidate will participate in group meetings and may be expected to present the results of their work, interpret data, and draw conclusions.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
The candidate should have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate coursework and have a solid foundation in analytical or bioorganic chemistry. Prior coursework or knowledge in the field of mass spectrometry and chromatography would be strongly preferred. The candidate should be highly self-motivated and is expected to commit a minimum of 12 weeks to this project. Microsoft Office computer experience and familiarity with basic laboratory equipment such as pipetting and biomatrix sample extraction is highly preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
