Specific Responsibilities:
A summer research internship is available in the Biology Department at the Foster City, CA, campus of Gilead Sciences. The candidate should be enrolled in an Undergraduate Program with Major in Biological Sciences (Bachelor or equivalent) and have some prior experience in Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biology or Molecular Biology work.
Essential Functions:
The intern in the High Throughput Biology & Screening group will develop and optimize biochemical and/or cell-based assays using robotics and automation to support drug discovery efforts in a biosafety level 2 laboratory. The candidate will design and conduct experiments, analyze and prepare reports as well as present results in group meetings. The candidate will also have the opportunity to interact with other functional groups in team-driven environment of Gilead’s drug discovery programs.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
Summer Intern at least 18 years old
Undergraduate (or graduate student, if applicable) enrolled in a 4-year accredited university/college; including enrolment in Fall Semester after internship
The successful candidate will have completed 1-2 years of college-level general biology and chemistry class and hands-on laboratory courses
Basic knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) are required.
Experience with automated instruments and data analysis software is a plus.
Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are essential.
Ability to complete 10-12 consecutive weeks between May and September
